Principal’s Welcome Message
Dear Grapevine Families,
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal at Grapevine Elementary. I look forward to being part of this amazing school community. For the past two years, I have served as Assistant Principal at Beaumont Elementary. I am proud to share that I am a product of Vista Unified, as I attended Bobier Elementary, Washington Middle School, and Vista High. I have deep roots in Vista and truly understand and respect this wonderful community.
Before becoming an educator, I had the opportunity to work as an instructional aide for afterschool programs including Grapevine. I was the first district Community Liaison and worked tirelessly to increase parent engagement district-wide. I was a bilingual Education Specialist with Carlsbad Unified School District at Aviara Oaks Middle School. I have both a mild/moderate and moderate/severe teaching credential and have taught, K-5th self-contained classes, Learning Center, and full inclusion in Valley Center at Lilac Elementary. All of these experiences have given me a well-rounded perspective on education.
I am thrilled to utilize my skills as an educational leader at Grapevine Elementary and partner with you to ensure your child’s success. I am honored to lead such an exceptional group of students, educators, and staff. Together we will continue to achieve great things and make lasting memories.

Dear Grapevine Families!
My name is Mayela H. Nuñez, and I am incredibly honored to serve as the new Assistant Principal at Grapevine Elementary School. As a lifelong educator, learner, equity-driven leader, and proud member of the Vista Unified community, I bring with me over 15 years of experience supporting students, families, and teachers across a variety of roles—from classroom teacher and TOSA and site administrator.
Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to creating culturally responsive learning environments that honor and elevate the voices of all students. I am proud to hold a Master of Arts in Education from California State University San Marcos, where I focused my research on supporting the writing achievement of second language learners. I also hold dual bachelor's degrees in Liberal Studies and Psychology, as well as a BCLAD Multiple Subject Credential with an authorization to teach English Learners and an Administrative Services Credential.
Most recently, I served as the Assistant Principal at Alamosa Park Elementary, a TK-5 dual language immersion (DLI) school, where I supported the implementation of a 90/10 instructional model in both English and Spanish. I have designed and led professional development, supervised and coached staff, and collaborated on school-wide systems for student support, behavior intervention, IEP coordination, and family engagement. My work is grounded in transformational leadership, data-driven instruction, and meaningful collaboration with all stakeholders.
I am excited to partner with you all in creating a safe, inclusive, and academically rich environment for every child. My vision is to help guide our future generations to become the kind of compassionate, courageous leaders our world needs.
